Before his recruitment as UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia in 2009, Mr. McGoldrick worked at the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mr. McGoldrick served as Chief of Humanitarian Coordination Support Section (2009) and as Chief of OCHA’s Humanitarian Reform Support Unit (2006-2008).

Mr. McGoldrick led OCHA’s team for immediate response to the Lebanese crisis (2006).  He also served as Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan (2006) supporting the UN country team in response to the effects of the earthquake and in developing of action plan for recovery phase. 

In 2005-2006, Mr. McGoldrick served as OCHA Section Chief for Middle East, North Africa and Great Lakes managing a team to support country offices in this geographic area in emergency and disaster situations.

In 2002-2005, he led a section in OCHA Geneva to oversee response to Iraq crisis and on-going support to OCHA office in Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa for natural disasters and complex emergencies.

His other OCHA assignments include: leading UNDAC mission in Jenin, West Bank (2002); Desk Officer and then Chief Asia and Pacific Section (2001-2002); Desk Officer in New York, USA, covering African countries in crisis (1999-2001); OCHA Appeal for Balkans (1998); Head of UN-OCHA in Tajikistan (1998), deputy Head of OHCA in Sierra Leone 1995-97.

Mr. McGoldrick also worked with International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) in Liberia (1994-1995); International Committee of Red Cross in Central Bosnia (1993-1994); Save the Children Fund (UK) in Somalia (1992-1993) and Sierra Leone (1991-1992).

In 1988-1991, prior to joining international agencies, he worked as news producer and researcher with a number of TV production companies in United Kingdom, such as BBC, Sky TV, Channel 4 and Middle East Broadcasting.

Mr. McGoldrick holds a Master of Arts in political science from Rocheville University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the Glasgow Caledonian University (UK).  He has certificates in Community Development Studies from Dunfermilne/Edinburgh College of Education (UK), Disaster Management from University of Wisconsin (USA) and Preventive Diplomacy from Columbia University (USA).  In addition to his native English, Mr. McGoldrick speaks fluent French.

Mr. McGoldrick is married and has two daughters.
