Dialogue and capacity for electoral process

Description

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in Georgia.

The initiative provides the immediate assistance to key electoral stakeholders in order to: reach consensus on central aspects of electoral legislation; develop enough expertise within national institutions to effectively administer the electoral processes; and to increase awareness of the electoral process.

The initiative aims to achieve the following:

  • A revised Unified Election Code with clearly formulated provisions acknowledged by national electoral stakeholders, such as the key decision-makers and political parties, including the opposition. This will contribute towards a publicly trusted electoral process as a foundation for stable democracy.
  • An Electoral Administration fully aware of the legal framework and technically prepared to effectively administer free and fair local self-governance elections in 2010;
  • Increased awareness regarding the electoral process among electoral stakeholders, such as courts, media, domestic observers and the public with the particular focus on ethnic minorities.
