Note to Table A4.4

The non-food allowances of the "Recommended Poverty Line" for families of 2, 3 and 4 members have been constructed on the assumption that the coefficient theta is distributed equally between food and non-food. Actually, this is not correct because economies of scale are much greater in the consumption of non-food items than for food. In real life, the values of non-food allowance for families greater than one member in the "Recommended Poverty Line" would be lower than those shown in Table A4.4. Nevertheless, the values presented are still good enough to explore the options and alternatives open to these 4 families.
